Antibiotics in animals

Anyone who read this post knows how I feel about eating animals... and some new guidance came out from the FDA on the use of antibiotics in animals (see full read here, if you really want to). The guidance basically says that they want to limit the use of antibiotics in animals, a GREAT step since so many antibiotics are used for these animals, then humans consume the animals and then develop antibiotic resistance. A completely nasty cycle.

From what I have read about the response to this the meat industry isn't happy. This blog says that the "National Pork Producers Council says the guidance will be "overly burdensome" while claiming there's no connection between non-organic meat consumption and antibiotic resistance."

Right. Those guys over there at the pig council are smoking crack. Or are perhaps just doped up on the myriad of drugs they give to their pigs?

I think the guidance is one step in the right direction. If antibiotic usage in farmed animals could be cut, anyone who eats meat, especially non-organic meat, would be so much better off.
