Daily Owen: 1.30.2013

I'm going to kid myself into thinking this is a look of "sorry, mom, I didn't MEAN to wake up every TWO HOURS last night." (in reality it's the "I have hiccups" look). Sigh.

We are currently sleep training...in that we are getting Owen on a schedule which is going GREAT. It even continued through our travels this weekend (see picture). Now if only we could get him a little more weaned through the night....

Month 4: Dear Owen,

I thought I should maybe post this before you turn 5 months, oh TOMORROW. Worst month yet as far as getting this published. The monthly shots:

Four months!

You were quite intrigued with the moose.

What a little ham! It's amazing how far we've come since the first screaming 1 month shots. Unbelievable.

The fourth month of your life was spent adjusting to me going back to work. I went back to work 1 day after you turned 3 months old, 2 days before Thanksgiving. The above is a shot your poppy took on my first day back at work with a caption of "This is easy, we've totally got this." And it has been... easy, that is. I like the fact that I can get out of the house a bit and work/interact with people and you love your nanny and spending time with your poppy.

Another shot by your poppy when you were having fun at the studio with him.

You also got to have your first Thanksgiving. It was a different Thanksgiving than in year's past because we went to bed early and it was very low key.

And for the sake of documentation because I never blogged about it anywhere else, our Thanksgiving table.

The day after Thanksgiving, or really, the morning after, we woke you up for your 2am feeding (the one morning you DIDN'T wake up yourself), fed you, then whisked you off to the airport for your first flight. We had a 6am flight back to Kansas City to go to my Grandma Mc's funeral. You did so great on the flight but I think that part of that was due to the fact that it was so early and still your sleeping time.

You had so much fun while we were back there, especially with your grandma and grandpa. They spoil you.

We got to visit a lot of my old favorite childhood places on the way to Springfield for the funeral, including Osceola cheese.

We also visited my grandma's old house and I took a picture of you and your dad on the steps where my grandma always greeted us when we drove up. Bittersweet.

You looked like such a dapper dude for the funeral and did so awesome for the services.

On your second plane flight, you slept pretty much the whole way as well. Again, we were SO impressed.

At the beginning of December, your mom and pops got all dressed up to go to my work's holiday party. (And let me just say: this was not fun considering I am decidedly not one of those people that loses baby weight quickly...not that you care)...

We also took you on one of your first snowy hikes. It started out not so snowy...

but once we got to the bottom there was a good inch on the ground at least!

You were curious as to what all that white stuff was.

One more snowy family shot.

You also started to show some team spirit now that college basketball is back. Rock chalk baby! Your grandpa would be so proud.

And the obligatory chain of sleeping pictures where we (meaning your dad and I) take a moment of silence to reflect on the fact that you do indeed sleep, now DEAR GOD please start sleeping more than three hours a time at night!

This was also your first holiday season with us so we took a friday night in early December to put up all our Christmas decorations. We even got a stocking with your name on it. Last year the place holder was a little pinecone hanging thing since we have 5 stocking holders but only had 4 people in our family. I guess now our family is pretty complete.

You also got some Christmas jammies from your Grammy which you promptly broke in by pooping all over them about 2.5 seconds after this picture. Perhaps that's what the big smile was for?

You also had a few more playdates with all of your buddies...it's amazing how quickly everyone is growing.

And you played and played with your poppy... of course. You love him so much.

You've also really started to explore your world this month. You're way more entranced by your toys and have become more curious about them and actually PLAYING with them versus just looking at them. We actually have to give you toys now to ENTERTAIN you. As in, you get bored now.

Your grandparents sent you an early Christmas present which you love and will grow to love even more.

You are starting to develop quite the personality, little man. Sometimes you are so serious and other times you are just a ball of fun- full of smiles and playfulness. You can tell that you are often thinking and trying to figure things out. You are definitely your parents kid.

There is nothing better in this world than those sweet baby smiles. Well, maybe the laughing but that hasn't really happened voluntarily yet (this month it did, maybe I'll write your 5 month post sooner!)

A family shot in honor of Christmas...with Santa.

I love this shot of us. It's been such a joyful month. No major boobie issues other than a couple of minor clogged ducts, still some poop issues but I've opened my diet so nothing like before- it's basically been just a month of playing and getting to know you even more. The more time we spend with you, the more I can't imagine not spending a moment without you. You are our little man...you are sweet, funny, playful, you love your mama and poppy, and also now you love your feet. If you had asked me 4 months ago if I thought I could be happier I would have said no and I would have had a bit of nostalgia because my newborn baby was going to get bigger. But the bigger you get, the more you interact and it really is true what they say that each new stage is actually better...and I keep getting HAPPIER. I am the happiest person alive. I love your poppy, I love being your mama, I am so fulfilled. I cannot wait to see what the upcoming months hold. I love you to the moon and back.
