Daily Owen: 3.29.2013

Well, we showed spirit. Now we are in mourning. Poor little jayhawks blew it.

Daily Owen: 3.27.2013

Rough day at swimming lessons yesterday. Mama watched from the side as I've been sick all week (awesome timing....) Then, Owen had some stranger anxiety, did not like going under the water, needed a nap, and is (I think) now working on his top two teeth. Poor poppy was probably deaf from screams by the end of the lesson. Oh well, they can't all be perfect!

Does it count as crawling if he just scoots himself backwards?

Daily Owen: 3.23.2013

Yesterday while buying groceries we put Owen into the cart like a big boy for the first time. He sprawled out and made himself right at home. Too funny.

Little monkey loved my banana! He stole it from me and just went to town. Hilarious!

Daily Owen: 3.20.2013

Owen had his first swimming lessons yesterday- he did awesome and didn't really cry at all! It was so much cooler than we thought it would be. There was a 12 month boy there that was already swimming and he started at Owens age. We were totally impressed as our goal was just to get Owen comfortable in water. Looks like he's actually going to learn to swim, and soon, too! (by the way, Owen was by FAR bigger than the year old boy there- the mom looked at us like "there's no way your kid is only 7 months." Pretty funny. Big boy had a big (fun) 7 month birthday!

Daily Owen: 3.19.2013

Seven. Months. Old. Not possible.

Month 6: Dear Owen,

Well, little man cub, somehow a half a year has passed. More than that, really, since it is um, now TODAY your 7 month birthday. Whoops. Well, better late than never and at least I am consistent in my tardiness. Perhaps I should just go ahead and write your 7 month blog, too, but let's be honest, I'll see you next month for that. Let's look at your monthly photos:

(Sidenote: Can I just say it BLOWS MY MIND right now how small you were?! Everyone said that to me when you were first born... I totally get it now- you forget how small newborns are).

SIX!

You are really way too dang cute for your own good. You had a 6 month checkup where we got your stats: TALL AND SKINNY. You've been this way from the get go but now you are REALLY falling in to this bucket. You were 29.5 inches long (off the charts), 18.5 pounds (70%) and your head measurement was off the charts too. So, tall and skinny with a big brain. In contrast, you mom was shorter and chunkier at 26 inches, 18.9 pounds at the same age.

We had a lot of fun this month. A lot of weekends were started like this- playing in bed. It's become one of my favorite times...these Saturday and Sunday mornings where we hear you, try to ignore you, then your talking becomes too persistent so we groggily pull you in to bed where we all entertain each other for a couple hours until it's time for your next nap (and sometimes we get more sleep too!) It's times like these that I feel so eternally grateful for our little family and the bond we all have. I KNOW, I KNOW your mom is being sappy again. Better get used to it, kiddo.

You also helped celebrate your dad's 39th birthday this month....

You really liked one of his presents in particular which you decided to eat.

For his birthday we took him to Leavenworth where we played in the snow. You seemed to love it. I, on the other hand, froze and fell and was a grumpy pants. All was ok, though, and we still managed to give you pops a good surprise party.

And you were happy to get to play with his birthday balloons for days afterwards.

This month you also celebrated your first valentine's day. I'm not ignorant enough to think that you'll never love anyone else but for the next few years I'm just going to relish in the fact that I have more than just your dad as my valentine.

I'm not sure if I have ever mentioned it here but you love (LOVE!) going to stores...Costco, Whole Foods, you name it. You just look and look and look. You'd think you'd get bored or start crying but nope, you love it.

We also bought you a stroller this month since you've started to get quite heavy to carry. We took you on a lot of walks as the weather has started to get nicer (sort of)...  You love your stroller and getting fresh air.

We also preemptively bought you a hiking backpack to use this summer for hiking. I think it's going to be so fun and I think you will love it.

Your new love this month: SOPHIE. Whoever invented Sophie the giraffe is brilliant.

You also decided that you love playing with kitchen utensils. As long as we have Sophie and kitchen tupperware or cooking utensils, who needs baby toys?

A note on sleeping:

THANK YOU.

Did I already say thank you? Times it by a million. Your dad and I almost feel like normal human beings again thanks to your consistent schedule. 3 naps a day then you are down for the night at 7pm-7am with a dream feed and one wake up in between those hours. I can totally tolerate that!

Just please keep it up, ok?

Some mornings you do wake up early but one of these mornings I rolled you over to realize, OOPS. Diaper fail. Needless to say, you took a pretty early nap that day.

One day this month you played with our friend Miss Cindy and got to sit in her kids' high chair.

You're such a big boy!

You've also perfected the art of rolling over.

And do it pretty consistently. Although if you get tired you'll put your head down and screech to try to implore us to PLEASE HELP YOU off your dreaded stomach (even if you put yourself there). You also learned how to sit up but you weren't totally steady yet this month so we didn't quite get a picture. But hey, it's documented- you DID learn to sit up! Milestone!

One of your favorite things this month still remains your playtime with your poppy. He makes you laugh like no one else and when you two are playing, it's like no one else in the world matters. It warms my heart so much to watch you two together.

One day you even helped him train at the gym!

You've also continued to really smile and laugh at us. With meaning.

And you're becoming so much more aware of your surroundings. So observant and you can tell that you're just soaking it all in trying to figure out this great big world.

Often when you're deep in thought we call you Mr. Serious. We're not sure exactly what you're trying to figure out but the gears are grinding.

You're seriousness is offset but a love of play. I think both your dad and I are like this so you, of course, follow suit. You play hard and you think hard. You are the best of both worlds.

And of course, there's always some time for some goofiness.

We have so much fun together, little Oeo. If that's one thing I've learned this month it's that the laughter in this house has increased ten fold because of you. Your poppy and I have always had fun and have always been able to laugh with each other but now, you are making us laugh harder and longer than we did before. Sometimes we laugh at you (sorry, you're funny) but a lot of times we're laughing with you. We love you so much and are having so much fun exploring the world again with you and seeing it through your eyes... and relearning the basics of life and what really matters: love, laughter, and family.

Love,
Mama.
