Daily Owen & Bennett: 9.21.2016

Another picture of one of the boys while I am away... looks like they are just living the dream!

Got this picture while in California today... and trying to stay awake on 3 hours of sleep (YAWN). Little guy feels good as new!

Whelp, today did not quite end as I expected it to. I had a golf tournament today, and Owen has been fighting a little cold but was mostly over it (so we thought). He had a lingering cough, but we figured that was the last and it would be fine. I stayed in touch with Justin all day to see how his cough was doing, and it seemed like it was getting better. We were keeping him on stuff, keeping him steamed up in the shower, and he was acting fine/no fever, etc.

When I got home from golfing, I was packing to fly out at 6am the next day for California. I gave Owen a shower and noticed that, despite him acting/seeming fine, his breathing did not seem fine to me. It seemed shallow and like it was tough for him. It totally freaked me out. Justin said, we'll just watch it and see how it goes, and by this point, literally within an hour, his cough seemed worse, too. At that point, his breathing is totally freaking me out. Fast forward to about 8:30pm, and we decided it was best to take him in. There was no way anyone was going to sleep and no way in freaking hell was I going to get on an airplane if he still seemed like this through the night.

Turns out the little guy had bronchitis... very, very mild case of it, but nonetheless, it was good to take him in. After a breathing treatment, he was good as new, and basically dancing around the doctor's office (literally). I felt better knowing he was fine, especially since I was leaving, and he was able to get his lungs calmed down from the breathing treatment. It was still a pretty short night.

Bedheads in the morning.

Later: little helpers! I love when they decide they want to vacuum. Um, yes!

To wrap up the weekend, we decided to go on a little walk/bike ride, which actually ended up being more of a run/bike ride-- the kids are getting way fast on their bikes!

The weather is starting to turn here. I'm quite bummed by it this year. I feel like we really didn't get the month of August as a part of our summer here in Seattle. I know it wasn't "bad" but it also wasn't "good." As in: I like it hot. I'm not ready for the incessant rain or cold, damp days. Just blah this year about this change. However, on a more upbeat note, I'm trying to embrace it and change and everything that the changing of seasons holds.

So instead of sitting in and moping about the rainy day, we headed out to target! When you can't really think of anything else to do... go to Target. Something like that. Actually, I needed to get a few things there, so it was a productive trip, and both kids tagged a long (and even better, were actually good!)

Tonight: dinner with cousins and grandpa Joe. Also: crazy madness with all the kids. HOLY COW. It also really reinforces why there is no way in hell I would have every considered any sort of education of kids as my profession. After 5 minutes in a classroom, I would be so out. Love all of these kiddos, but wow. It is so great that all of the cousins are close and do play well together.

Dinner with grandpa Joe to celebrate Oliver's 20th birthday, complete with root beer floats. I'm pretty sure neither of our kids has ever had root beer, much less a root beer float. More proof that they are WAY more of their dad than they are me: they both devoured them in about 1.2 seconds flat. (I, however, cannot stand the taste of root beer and don't care for ice cream-- never have). It was pretty cute, though, and yes, you can imagine what happened about 5 minutes after the floats were inhaled. CRAZY.(SUGAR). TIME.

Bennett felt extra special today-- poppy let him nap in the bunk beds! (The lower one). He basically ended up sleeping sideways, but apparently woke up with a huge grin on his face. What a big boy. Wants to do everything big brother does.

Mom WIN today. I was running solo, and running late, so I made the kids PB&J for dinner... WHO KNEW that it would be a dinner they would actually EAT? I mean, really, I felt like a genius. Why the hell am I wasting all of this time making them good food, when really, PB&J is actually something that will get in their tummies? For the gift of that knowledge, it's almost guaranteed, I'm going to try to make something tomorrow that will take incredible amounts of time, that they won't touch, all just to get maybe .000006 ounces of vegetables in to them.

In other news tonight: bath time wrestling. Seriously, I posted this picture of Bennett wrestling Owen on facebook because I thought it was funny... two brothers who won't stop wrestling, even in the bath... and someone (an older "friend" of Justin's) said it was basically child porn. What is wrong with people?! I still think it's funny that Bennett basically plowed Owen in the bath, but for all the haters out there, I'm not posting it again.
