Hawaii 2011, day #2

In an effort to get totally caught up on this silly blog, here is the Hawaii Day #2 post, which dates back to August 23, 2011. We determined this day as the day we would do the drive to Hana. We were still on Seattle time so it was easy to wake up early and get going.

Driving down the road, top down first thing in the morning...and WARM. That sounds so amazing right now.

Leaving Wailea...

A view (sort of) of the big Volcano, Haleakala. Justin decided he wants to ride his bike UP the volcano next time we are in Maui. I will take my fruity drink and meet him at the beach.

First stop on the drive- a little beach on the north shore of the island. Beautiful.

And a shot of us.

Quickly, it became hot enough to strip down and drive in a bikini. Now the question is: WHY don't I live somewhere warm??

We immediately became immersed in all of the views that the road to Hana has to offer... stunning.

Windy, small road.

We made a stop at a black sand beach along the way.

And we did a little hiking here along the coastline.

Yep, that's me- bikini and hiking shoes. Awesome.

After making a couple of more stops on the road to Hana to get banana bread and exotic fruit, we quickly hit the back (south) side of the island. The part where they tell you not to drive. It's fine. I've done it before and really the road is not bad at all and beats going the same way you came. It offers a totally different view of Maui than on the way to Hana.

The back side of Maui- desolate and dry.

Eventually we made it home and after a long day out exploring, we decided to cook at home and eat on the porch of the condo we rented.

We made an amazing tofu curry stir fry that totally hit the spot after our day.

And of course, we had a nice bottle of wine to accompany it.

And almost better than the food and wine, but not quite better than the company was the amazing sunset we watched through it all. Second day in paradise down... (and now as I'm reliving this, I am wondering even more why don't I live somewhere like this?)
