Daily Owen & Bennett: 11.1.2016

These are the pictures I get at work... ha!

Happy Halloween from our little civil servants! They loved trick or treating this year, and got to do so with their friend Krissy. We had a lot of fun, and the rain even held off for the most part!

Grandpa Joe came back over today! (He was also with us on Friday evening, but went to Jordan's yesterday while we attended the gala). He endured no less than 193847539 rounds of catch in his short time here.

Mom and Poppy had a little gala this evening for our friends at Northwest Kidney Center. Since Justin has a genetic kidney disease (and our kids have a 50-50 chance of getting it as well), it is an organization that is near and dear to our hearts. It was fun to get dressed up for a good cause, and of course, the kids loved that they got to go play at Miss Collette's for an overnight!

Owen's school decided Friday was a better day for a party, so had his Halloween party on the Friday before Halloween. I was unable to go, but Justin sent me some pretty cute pictures of Owen all dressed up.  (and as a side note, do not feel sorry that I was unable to go... I am sure there will be more. And I may be the worst mom ever, but I really despise these parties. There are SO MANY kids... so many parents... it is just chaos. I hate it. It is further confirmation of why it would have only been some weird form of severe torture if I were to have ever been a teacher).

Playing some sort of game at Miss Collette's. Apparently both men were down.

Bennett has a tradition that he does every time he rides home with his dad in the car. Upon hitting the mailboxes, he yells "drive" or "up"... which means from the mailboxes up to our driveway, he chooses whether he wants to drive the car up the driveway or stick his head through the sunroof while poppy drives up the driveway.

Today was a drive day. Good thing his eye is on the road.

I have always said, from DAY ONE, ok, maybe day two, that anyone who tries to tell me that baths calm children are BAT YOU KNOW WHAT.  Because from that first or second day (who's really paying attention at that point?), my kids have seriously lost their damn minds if even a pinky toe touched the water. As in: it's as if you've given them 4 cups of coffee and they say, oh yeah, you thought this was going to sedate me and make me go to sleep? HA, well, that's cute. Hell to the NO, it is party time!

It's just a weird phenomenon, and maybe my kids are wired differently. But I have tried every rendition of this "bath time" ritual to make it a nice calming before bed, winding down experience. NOT HAPPENING. As in EVER. It winds them up like you would not believe... whether it's a short bath, a long bath, a nice little lavender petal bath, shoot, even a shower. WATER MAKES THEM CRAZY. And there is no getting around that crazy, no matter what. You can read, you can try to do puzzles, you can try to sing, rock, hold, do whatever ritual you "think" might make a kid want to sleep. Negative captain.

I have long since operated under the principal that all kids are different so screw people who say that things should be "XX" or "YY." In this case, I have learned to embrace the crazy. They are boys, they are high energy, and bath time just adds fuel to that fire. You might think that the way to get around this would be to avoid baths altogether. Again, might I remind you of just one small word: BOYS. One of which apparently likes to put live snails in his pockets (another story). Let's just say that avoiding bath time is not a negotiable subject.
